In the confessional, the priest acts in the place of Jesus Christ

The Gospel shows us clearly that Christ chose the twelve Apostles and gave them special powers with regards to the Eucharist, the forgiveness of sins and the administration of the other Sacraments. To ensure that these gifts be conserved in the Church until the end of time, besides instituting the Eucharist during the Last Supper with his Apostles, Jesus Christ instituted the Sacrament of Holy Orders, with the words: ‘Do this in memory of me’.

Christ himself also ordered them to transmit this Sacrament with its powers to their successors, in order to govern and sanctify the people, as well as to safeguard the deposit of his doctrine. And so they have done, by the imposition of hands, from that time until the present.

In this way they constitute the lineage of the ministers of the Lord, and do not act for themselves, but rather in the name and the person of Christ: in persona Christi Capitis.

At the request of a subscriber of The Denzinger-Bergoglio, this study clarifies a doubt that Francis raised for many people by an affirmation he made in the Audience of February 3, 2016: Does the priest in the confessional represent the Father, or Jesus?

And we take the opportunity to ask: Where in Francis’ affirmations is the theological accuracy that is necessary for anyone who teaches the faith? Why such lack of seriousness in transmitting the truths of the faith? Click here and continue reading…

  1. A Sister (nun) that I sent this article to, seemed to think it was neither here nor there whether he says we approach the Father or the Son in Reconciliation. Apart from the obvious (it is theologically incorrect) I answered that I think its because Bergoglio is leading us to a a One World Religion where we all worship ‘a version’ of the Father- so that’s where his emphasis always seems to go. For example he thinks we worship the same god as Muslims- when we clearly don’t. He will ultimately deny the importance of Christ, since he promulgates that we are all forgiven anyway!

    • Exactly. To say that a fatherly mercy awaits the sinner in the confessional is in fact correct. But Bergoglio plays on words to push his new religion, that sidelines Jesus Christ, and so also God the Father, for a false god that embraces all religions and sinful abominations. That’s why I love this blog. Their studies put together show clearly what Bergoglio really is teaching, behind the evasive and equivocal language. Send the sister the link of the queries page, she’ll realize what is going on.

    • The ‘father’ that Francis refers to is not the Father that Jesus Christ taught us. He said “I did not come to abolish the commandments” Mt 5:17.
