With only a few minor delays – perhaps owing to last-minute changes in order to forestall more public disquiet than what has already been stirred up in the Catholic world by these videos – the third of the ‘Pope’s video’ series was recently put on air to ‘share the intentions of the month: for children and families in difficulty’.

In the first part of this study, undertaken by our specialist in Social Doctrine, we examined the “peculiar” use that Francis made of some references from John Paul II’s Encyclical Laborem exercens. One of the points that still remains to be dealt with is regarding an affirmation of the Polish Pontiff: “the right to private property is subordinated to the right to common use, to the fact that goods are meant for everyone” – a fact that was brought up and taken advantage of by the current Bishop of Rome in his controversial Encyclical Laudato Si’. We have enthusiastically watched the public veneration of the incorrupt body of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, a great saint of the 20th century, in Saint Peter’s Basilica. In this way, Francis wishes to pay homage to the saint who reconciled so many people with God, for he knew how to encourage many penitents to abandon their errors, sins and crimes. Francis payed homage to Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, granting an audience to the prayer groups inspired by this Italian saint; a multitude of 40,000 filled Saint Peter´s square a few days ago, accompanying his relics along with those of Saint Leopold Mandic.
